GOOGLE ME: Jean-Michel Basquiat

.Never Outshine The Master.

I recently came across this photo shoot of Nigerian model Ty Ogunkova in Vogue Hommes International (Spring/Summer 2010, and I was anxious to see if they were going to be able to capture the true essence of Basquat.

The Rebel. Edgy. Different.

I believe they did. 

He has been noted by Graham Thompson as the first painter of African descent to become an international art star. To me he embodies the true essence of art...be your OWN.

I adore this pic above all. 

Jean-Michel Basquiat born in 1960 in Brooklyn, New York. At a young age, he was encouraged by his mother to paint and draw. He started his art career when he dropped out of his Senior year in high school and started selling postcards and t-shirts he has created. In 1981 he joined the Annina Nosei gallery and started exhibiting his pieces along side other great artists like David Salle. It was around this time he joined the Neo-Expressionist Movement, became acquainted with Andy Warhol and began dating Madonna. Basquiat worked on his paintings in Armani suits, which he would often appear in public with paint splats all over them.  By the mid 80s he left the Annina Nosei gallery to the more prominent Mary Boone gallery in SoHo. Basquait was heavily influenced by the punk and graffiti movement. His work were quirky with vibrant blobs of paint and extraordinary shapes. His works often referred to politics and the history of Black People.

Allow Me To Re-Introduce Myself....

Sooooo, I've been M.I.A lately. Ive got many reasons/excuses...but the main point remains...im BACK! Hold the applause please. LOL. Any who, my apologies for my lack of posts. And without further delay Ill give you all the latest scoop about ME. 

As G has told all of you, many changes soon to come!! We are working hard to make this blog better..for you of course...so we'll definitely keep ya'll posted. 

As for me, and G, we are in NYC constantly, and we're going to try to posts about our experiences in the big city much more often. I am currently interning at Pop'Africana, and I'm totally excited about it. Not only because its a magazine striving to redefine the preconceived images of AFRICA, but also because I feel like I'm contributing to a MOVEMENT. Gaga for Gaga

Lady Gaga is the cover girl for January's edition of ELLE magazine. I personally think this is Gaga's best look so far hands down! Simple, chic & pretty. She discusses her previous album covers and the stress of the music biz, her sexuality (of course) and her romantic future. I'm not subscribed to ELLE, but I WILL be copping this issue as soon as it hits stands! Oh yea...and peep the Suede elevated platform shoes by Vivienne Westwood...they are to die for!!

The Unforgettable

Allen, who landed the coveted role as the face of Coco Cocoon.  A new collection that features fabulous featherweight quilted handbags and travel accessories for Chanel. GOOGLE ME: Edward Enninful

It all started while watching The September Issue. G and I began to wonder who was this man who seemed to crumble to pieces while sitting opposite Ms. Wintour? Whose confidence began to falter as his insecurities waned through? So, we took a second and googled Mr. Edward Enninful and discovered something...he is actually the BOMB x10. His resume will make you blink twice and his talent will have you speechless. But then again it all makes sense...of course he is...he works for Anna. Here are some pics of his work and a brief bio. One of the most sought after stylists in the industry, Edward Enninful is an innovative and visionary talent, top fashion editor and stylist. Born in Ghana, grew up in London. Appointed at age 18 (in 1991) as fashion director of i-D magazine. Youngest ever fashion director of an international magazine. Collaborates frequently with Steven Meisel, Craig McDean and with top models Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. Styled the now iconic "All Black Models" issue for July 2008 Italian Vogue. In 2006, Enninful became Contributing Fashion Editor for American Vogue; he has held that position at Italian Vogue since 1998 and is currently the Fashion Director of i-D. Along with his extensive editorial work, Enninful has distinctively shaped numerous advertising campaigns and runway shows including Comme des Garçons, Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Celine, Lanvin and many more.

Black Face Dilemma? Next Please...

At first I had so much to say about these "creative" images that these magazines(1st French Vogue and now V Magazine) continue to conjure up. I've read countless comments on different blogs and even spoke to G about it. But then i realised something...they continue to do this because WE continue to talk about it..hence the controversial aspect. So I'm over it. Next...
